Baramulla, Jan 14 (KNO): Residents of Kitchama village in North Kashmir's Baramulla district staged a protest on Wednesday against the installation of smart meters. Demonstrators, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “They won’t allow the Power Development Department to proceed with meter installation.” They said, “The PDD is contradicting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's assurance of giving residents a choice in meter installation.” The villagers claimed the PDD is violating court orders, as the matter remains pending in the court. “Where will the poor go? Let the department take these transformers along with poles — we will go with solar", one of the protestors said, while highlighting the power cuts being imposed on the households not falling in the line—(KNO)
